Theatre Products Fall/Winter 2009-2010 Collection

Theatre products presented their Fall/Winter 2009-10 Collection at Laforet Museum as part of Japan Fashion week. The previous Theatre Products Spring/Summer collection was very much inspired by Cyndi Lauper 80s, with shocking pinks and neon greens.

This time around, the collection, which is on the theme of “joy” is very much inspired by the 70s. Designers Akira Takeuchi and Tayuka Nakanishi took inspiration from vintage pictures of European families on vacation, and colored their collection with the sepia tones of an aged photograph, accentuated with touches of somber blue and red.

The main materials suggest a relaxed, at-home with family and friends feeling, with curtain-like wool Jacquards, quilted leather, leopard print patchwork designs, and prints featuring porcelain dolls, woods and cottages and hearts. The designs give an outdoorsy feel to indoor wear, with pieces inspired by hunting jackets, jodhpur pants, and riding boots. Accessories as also inspired by a family hike to the mountains, with quilted fleece socks, cable knit leg warmers, and katyusha headband of cork and quilted leather.

In past shows, Theatre Products has eschewed youth obsession by employing middle-aged male models. This show featured a mix of female models including a child and a more mature woman, creating a feeling of a multi-generational family outing.
